UV AR coatings can be a sensible way to augment UV protection – but only if the majority of rays are blocked by the lens. The fact is, anti-reflective (AR) coatings are designed to increase transmission of light through lenses. Without a UV blocking lens material, UV AR coatings will actually increase UV transmission coming directly
Is able to block 100% UV radiation - the internal components of ClearVue windows (interlayer materials, low-emissivity coating, and the glass panes themselves) serve to significantly absorb and/or
Acrylic Aquariums Become Yellow and Brittle Over Time. Another inherent flaw of acrylic is it can’t stand up to UV light, turning yellow over time. Many plastic materials claim to be “UV Resistant”, but no acrylic is UV-proof. In the long run, no additive can make plastic/acrylic stand up to UV light as long as glass.
Typically made of PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate), acrylic light pipes will be superior due to their: High light transmittance – PMMA allows 92% of light to pass through it, which is more than glass or other plastics. UV stability – because PMMA also has a high resistance to UV’s damaging rays, it’s suitable for outdoor applications or
A portion of the light can be reflected off the incident surface, typically measuring about 4% for acrylic sheet. The remaining light that then enters the material is refracted or bent, as it passes into the material. The amount of bending is determined by the index of refraction. Depending on the material, some light may then be absorbed.
Edit In answer to the comment, you should be aware that no matter how transparent is the material in infrared, by absorbing the visible part of the radiation produced by the lamp it will still get hot. So your condition, transparent in IR, absorbant in visible, is not sufficient for your application if you want to avoid the shade getting hot
Ultraviolet visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometers use a light source to illuminate a sample with light across the UV to the visible wavelength range (typically 190 to 900 nm). The instruments then measure the light absorbed, transmitted, or reflected by the sample at each wavelength. Some spectrophotometers have an extended wavelength range, into the
Ultraviolet light can pass through glass, but the amount and type of UV (eg UVA, UVB etc) transmitted depends on the type and thickness of the glass, any coatings and laminates. Does UV pass
